Methodology

  1. Create the matrix A where A_i,j is how many times room i was rated above j.
  2. Find the largest real eigenvalue, λ.
  3. Find the corresponding eigenvector v so that Av = λv
  4. This vector is the “score”. The rooms are sorted.
  5. We did minor manual modifications when we thought the ranking was skewed due to fewer than 4 players having played a room, aka hidden gems.

This is a similar methodology to the one used for Top Escape Rooms Project

    1. That highly depends on the room. Sometimes we’ve played rooms in under 30 minutes where we felt that they just lacked more riddles or were thrown together fast and easy. Especially if the room suddenly ends without any kind of story climax and you’re left feeling like you were robbed of the good experience you signed up for. On the other hand, we played rooms in under 30 minutes that felt polished and well finished – they were just a bit on the easier side. And that is okay. It is important that there are good rooms out there that appeal to beginners who might not have as much experience. So in general, I would not disregard a room simply because an experienced group can escape fast.

    1. Hi Julia,
we haven’t played in the region near Schaffhausen yet, but hopefully soon. We got a list of recommendations.
